When New York’s last Australian pub closed in 2020, Aussies lost a place to watch the footy, cheer on the Matildas, and enjoy a few off the wood surrounded by a familiar accent. Enter Old Mates – New York’s real Aussie embassy, bringing a bit of down under to downtown.
Backed by Aussie A-listers Hugh Jackman, Pat Cummins, Mick Fanning, Patty Mills, Ash Barty, Hamish Blake, and Andy Lee, we worked with the founders from the idea’s infancy to craft a comprehensive brand identity.
Steering clear of tourist-trap tropes, we built a brand that harkens back to simpler times – when pints cost a fiver and ring-pull tabs threatened to garrotte your index finger. All substance, no froth.
A local pub where prime ministers, prizefighters and Wolverine peacefully coexist. No mean feat.
We even designed a baggy green, awarded to the diehard punters that notch up 100 pints in a calendar year.
